Please view my resume. Feedback is welcome.
What I did: I redid my resume in a new format: Google doc templates. It was good for me to update the format. I hadn't done that in a while, because I've been in the same job for 5 years now. (Unusual for me.) I used the "Copy of Circles" template. This was new. (When I first began composing my resume in 1983, it was on an electric typewriter, using correcting tape as needed.) I have always made a point of editing my resume once a year, usually in the summer, because who knows when a job could end. It's happened to me before.
What I Learned: I liked the modern style of this template and felt I had enough space to briefly present my experiences. I liked that this resume can easily be posted to the web.
NETS- T: This activity related to:
- Standard 2c, which states that teachers "customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources." It is important for student to know that these resources (templates, online publishing) are available and may be customized to their needs.
-Standard 1b, which states that teachers are to: "engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources". I feel confident that I could help a student post their resume to one of the current job hunting sites. That is a real-world issue.
How to Use: I'm not sure how I would use these resume templates for elementary school students, but I would explore and use other Google templates that are included on the site. I may have to teach how to publish to the web.
Welcome, and thank you for viewing my blog! I am a graduate student at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV. I am constructing this "blog" as an assignment from a course in Advanced Educational Technology and Media (EDUC 6305). It's my first attempt with this type of program, but I am slowly figuring it out. Feel free to "follow" and to "comment".

My Learning Styles Reflection
My VARK Questionnaire Results: I was close in my guess. I guessed that I was Visual, Aural and Solitary.
What did I do? I took the VARK test to determine my learning strengths. According to the online test, my scores were Aural-5, Read/Write-5, Visual-4, Kinesthetic-2. According to the test, I have a multimodal learning preference (like many other people). All of these go with my background as a violinist and pianist. Aural would be a developed strength for me because, as a violinist, I must constantly hear and adjust my own pitch and blend with other musicians. I rely on written music because I don’t memorize well. Playing an instrument is a physical action, so that would be the kinesthetic.
What did I learn? Use this link to view my responses to the test questions. This is not the first time I have done modalities testing. This has come up in my coursework and in inservices since around 1993. I have used surveys in connection to myself, my children and my students. I find it very interesting. However, all the assessments have been pencil-and-paper. These papers end up being cumbersome, piling on my desk as more people take them. I was pleased to find this online test. It gives instant results, so discussion can take place right away.
NETS-T: This activity related to standard 2a which states that teachers "design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity."
Students will find that this is a test that promotes introspection.
How to use it? I like to use modalities tests at the beginning of the school year to re-engage students into the learning mode. My students and I will appreciate this online test for its immediacy of results and the discussion that follows.

My Learning Styles
I have studied this topic several times over the course of my teaching career. These are the traits I consider to be my learning styles. 1) Visual. I have a photographic memory and I tend to “think in pictures”. I learned how to read before kindergarten. I am a very good speller. 2) Aural. Music has been a big part of my life. I was a music education major in my undergraduate days, violin major. 3) Solitary. I like teamwork, but I like doing my portion alone, then contributing. I like things “my way” and I appreciate “my time”.
Browser Wars Learning Outcomes
What I did: I read the Wikipedia article "Browser Wars" .Click here to view my reading responses
What I Learned: I had never given much thought to browsers. In fact, I didn't really know what one was. I was vaguely aware that Internet Explorer had replaced Netscape Navigator. It had never occurred to me to use anything beyond Internet Explorer. I learned that there are more and newer contenders. There is Mozilla Firefox (which I have recently added), Chrome, Opera, Safari and Camino, to name a few. I read about the fierce competition for popular use.
NETS- T: This reading activity related to:
- Standard 3a, which requires teachers to "demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations." I saved this article to my computer so I can refer to it. It helped me become more current in my knowledge of current technology.
-Standard 1d, which states that teachers are to "model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments." There are numerous browsers out there besides Internet Explorer. Imagine that! I never knew! Other browsers provide various ways to communicate effectively with digital tools.
How I can use this: Now that I am aware of other browsers, I can explore them to see their particular features and what value these browsers are to me.
